China offers significant opportunities for B.I Electrical Services
A week long trade mission to China by BI Electrical Services has resulted in meaningful dialogue with business leaders and Government officials about the company’s expansion into the region, according to its founder Mr Ian Humphreys.
Mr Humphreys, Managing Director of BI Electrical Services, said that following the trade mission he is excited about the prospects for expansion into the region. He added:
“Obviously expanding into a new region like China will take time. However, we are enthused, having visited the country, that there is a significant opportunity worth pursuing. We believe that our high quality and commitment to excellence will provide us with the differentiation required to win contracts. Certainly there will be challenges associated with any international expansion but we have the team and expertise to meet these as they arise.”
During the visit the company met with Government officials, electrical engineering companies as well as touring major construction projects in Shanghai. Jim Speirs, a non-executive Director at BI Electrical Services who took part in the trade mission said that the timing for expansion is right.
He said: “I have worked for many years in China and Asia, and the key to good business there is strong relationships. We have made good progress already in this regard and we will be returning to China in May to advance this further. The basis for our success in China is very much around the high quality services that we can offer.
The trip was facilitated by UKTI and InvestNI who met with BI Electrical Services team in Shanghai. Mr Humphreys applauded the work of InvestNI in their assistance with the trade mission.
“The continued support from InvestNI has been vital to making our expansion plans a reality. They have taken a partnership approach with the support provided being very tailored to our business objectives.”
The trade mission follows an announcement by Northern Ireland Economy Minister Arlene Foster that BI Electrical is to create 26 new jobs as part of its international expansion drive. A recent report by industry analysts names BI Electrical Services as one of the fastest growing electrical companies in the UK and fourth best trading partner.
Mr Humphreys added that the investment that BI Electrical Services has made in its corporate social responsibility initiatives both in terms of its contribution to the industry charity and its environmental responsibility were noted by the industry leaders who they met during the trade mission.
He said: “As part of our meetings in China, many people commented on our commitment to corporate social responsibility. It highlighted the strong values that the company has as a key contributor to the communities in which we operate.”
